Professor Roger Atkins DM FRCS
Roger Atkins qualified from Oxford University and Guys Hospital Medical School in 1978 and completed DM thesis at Oxford University in 1988. He was appointed Consultant Senior Lecturer in 1988 and Clinical Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Bristol in 1997. He introduced Ilizarov frames to the UK and founded the British Limb Reconstruction Society, presiding from 2002-2004.
His areas of clinical and research interest include non-union and mal-union deformity correction, bone sepsis, Ilizarov frame surgery, calcaneal, talus and pilon fractures, disability following injury, reflex sympathetic dystrophy and the biology of fracture healing. Professor Atkins is the author of over 100 papers.
